Announcement Update: Flourish Fund Receives $2 Million Grant From Google.org to Transform Foster Care System

Washington, DC - Flourish Fund, a faith-based venture philanthropy organization, received a $2 million grant from Google.org to accelerate technology-driven solutions to support foster youth, announced Google CEO Sundar Pichai in a White House event with First Lady Melania Trump.

The funding will support Flourish: Children & Families, the organization's collaborative giving fund to reimagine foster care. This initiative is focused on strengthening local ecosystems of care, anchored by faith communities, to meet the material, relational, and emotional needs of vulnerable children and families. Funding will support innovation in three strategic areas: strengthening families to prevent foster care placements; mobilizing faith communities to support biological, kinship, foster, and adoptive families; and building holistic support networks for vulnerable children and families, including young people aging out of foster care.

"This grant represents a significant milestone in Flourish Fund's work to catalyze systemic change for vulnerable kids and families around the foster system," said Dan Vogel, Flourish Fund Founder and CEO. “Partnering with one of the world’s most innovative organizations will be a force multiplier in our ability to leverage data, evidence, and technology to improve outcomes for foster youth.”

The Google.org grant will allow Flourish Fund to accelerate effective nonprofit models and technologies, including those designed to improve workforce readiness for young people aging out of foster care, connect families with resources, and enable churches and community partners to collaborate more effectively. In addition, this fall, Flourish Fund plans to launch an Innovation Challenge, inviting social entrepreneurs to submit innovative ideas to strengthen the community infrastructure needed to support vulnerable children. The challenge will seek bold technological and collaborative solutions for addressing gaps in current child welfare services.

Flourish Fund is a nonprofit venture philanthropy fund empowering generous families and institutions to address complex social problems through collaborative giving. The Google.org grant is part of what will ultimately be a $50M fund. Philanthropists interested in joining the Flourish Fund community can learn more by reaching out via the Contact page.
